Speak No Evil Box Office: As Universal gears up for the digital release of Speak No Evil on October 1, the film continues to prove box office resilience. Even in a relatively brief theatrical window—the latest in a long line of such for this year’s quick digital debuts—the movie is on track comfortably to exceed its outlay in production, to date clocking up $57 million in worldwide box office.
In its third frame, Speak No Evil outdrew Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and even stayed within the domestic top five, banking over $4 million this weekend alone. Abroad, it added more than $5 million, putting its overseas cume at nearly $30 million, with domestic income at $28 million.
Directed on what was supposed to be a $15 million budget, the movie now easily stands to surpass $60 million, nearing that of director M. Night Shyamalan‘s Trap, earning upwards of $80 million worldwide.
Speak No Evil Critical and Audience Reception
The remake of the internationally acclaimed Danish film of 2022, Speak No Evil, by James Watkins and featuring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi, and Scoot McNairy, is a disturbing family vacation when their hosts expose hidden motives. Critics love this film; for instance, on Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an 83% critic score associated with an impressive 85% audience score—a rare combination for any horror film.
It has hung in well, dropping only 28% in the third weekend, with a sterling B+ CinemaScore. That’s better than four out of every five horror films this year and has already outgrossed Abigail’s total.
The State of Horror
Even as the horror genre had some tough years recently with its own juice only coming in a few major hits, such as Longlegs ($74 million domestic), and A Quiet Place: Day One ($140 million), Speak No Evil shows that there’s still room for more compelling horror stories that ring out for audiences.
