Lexus’s 2026 ES EV targets Tesla customers with hybrid & BEV options, enhanced comfort, and a new 14-inch touchscreen display.

A vehicle that is probably bringing a new challenge in the EV market. We are talking about the 2026 Lexus ES, and more specifically its Electric Vehicle (BEV) avatar, which is aiming to attract Tesla’s customers. It is really interesting how a well-known luxury brand is entering this space and what is its strategy.
According to sources, the 2026 Lexus ES is going to be a unique vehicle. It will be the first Lexus vehicle to be offered simultaneously as a hybrid (combination of petrol and electric motors) and a fully Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Lexus is calling it its first “multi-pathway approach” vehicle, which means they are giving customers the option of different powertrains in the same model. Lexus and Toyota believe that customer choice is the most important thing, which is why they offer a wide range of options – petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
Lexus hopes to get more “conquest buyers” than ever with the 2026 ES, including current Tesla customers. Why? Lexus believes customers are now comfortable with alternative powertrains. They thank Tesla because a lot of customers have now experienced EVs and know their benefits. Lexus’ strategy is that when you visit a Lexus dealer, the salesperson can show you an EV after showing you a hybrid. This gives you the opportunity to make your choice within the Lexus brand, without having to go to a competitor.
The new 2026 ES not only has an EV powertrain, but it also has many other big changes and new features designed to attract existing customers as well as new ones. For example, the hybrid model has a height of 61.2 inches and the EV model has a height of 61.4 inches, which is an increase of more than four inches from the previous generation. This change makes it easier to get in and out of the car, especially for older customers who have a loyal following of Lexus. Comfort is a key theme at Lexus so you can enjoy your time in the car.
In addition, the 2026 ES will come with a new Lexus Interface multimedia system with a 14-inch tablet-style touchscreen. Lexus believes that customers today expect big screens in cars, and this screen certainly looks inspired by Tesla. The EV model (ES 350e) will also get the option of a recliner in the rear passenger seat with the Executive Package, like the Lexus LS or LX. Lexus hopes that with all these features and powertrain options, they will really be able to attract new customers, including Tesla.
