The impending debut of the novel Toyota Land Cruiser, which captured our attention during the previous summer with its aesthetically pleasing design, is slated to transpire in the United Kingdom towards the latter part of 2024. This signifies the introduction of the inaugural entirely redesigned Land Cruiser model in the UK since the year 2009.

The prototype, identified by the codename J250, shares the GA-F mechanical platform with its larger sibling, the J300 Land Cruiser, a model not currently available in the UK. This shared platform is poised to bestow remarkable off-road capabilities.

While retaining an aesthetic resemblance to the 1980s FJ60, the J250 is not solely tailored for off-road prowess but also accentuates on-road supremacy and comfort.

Opulent features such as an expansive glass roof, sumptuous leather seating, and an advanced expansive digital display contribute to an opulent interior. This development gives rise to contemplation regarding whether the Land Cruiser might pose a significant challenge to the Land Rover Defender.

The J250, constructed on body-on-frame architecture, boasts a 50% augmentation in frame rigidity compared to its forerunner, resulting in a 30% overall enhancement in stiffness. A noteworthy addition is the incorporation of electric power steering, a Land Cruiser first.

Moreover, operators will have the choice to disengage the front anti-roll bar utilizing a dashboard control, augmenting manoeuvrability on rugged terrains and elevating overall driving comfort.

While diverse powertrain options have been disclosed for various markets, the UK is set to receive a 2.8-litre diesel engine generating 201bhp upon the Land Cruiser’s arrival in the latter part of 2024. Anticipation exists for the introduction of a mild-hybrid variant in early 2025. All variants will incorporate an eight-speed automatic transmission and possess a towing capacity of 3500kg.

The Land Cruiser will be obtainable in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations. The initial launch will include a limited-edition First Edition model, distinguished by its heritage aesthetics, encompassing round headlights and a dual-tone paint finish in Sand or Smoky Blue.

Despite the abundance of insights provided, crucial details such as pricing and the commencement of UK orders remain pending.

While pre-sales commenced in left-hand drive European markets in December of the previous year, the UK might encounter a delay in receiving these particulars. It is anticipated that additional information will be unveiled later in the current year.
