Stranger Things Season 5: Gaten Matarazzo Teases "Biggest, Darkest, Scariest" Final Chapter

The excitement for filming for is growing, especially after , who plays , recently shared details about it. After the town of was destroyed by the two years ago, this season will not only take the story forward but also bring new adventures and challenges for the audience. The have already declared this season to be the final part of the show, and it is set to begin shooting in January 2024. This time, they are aiming to bring even more depth to their writing, giving the audience a complete and satisfying experience.

Matarazzo also confirmed in the interview that this final season aims to be the “biggest, darkest, scariest”. He explained that the Duffer Brothers strive to increase the scale and depth of the show every year so that the audience gets a solid message. Such goals reflect how has made its mark not only as an program but also as an impactful story. As the story nears its end, viewers are eager to know what the future holds for Hawkins and its heroes.

I think that’s the goal. That’s certainly the intention behind writing it. The one consistency of this show is that it just grows every year in scale and size and in the message that they want to bring. So this season is not different in the slightest, and I knew that they had prepped that, initially. They said, “Hey, this one is going to be really, really big. We’re not going to candy-coat it: it’s a full year shoot.” And that led to a big reaction of, like, “Oh, so we’re really going for it.” So we have been [going for it] and we still are. I’m excited for people to see it.

Matarazzo shared his experience, explaining that his feelings about shooting the show’s final two seasons have changed over time. Previously, he was always looking forward to the process, but the various delays frustrated him. Now, as he approaches the end of filming, the situation has become “quite upsetting” for him. He finds it difficult to think about bidding farewell to his role, which has not only been an important part of his career but has also become an integral part of his identity.

At this time, Matarazzo also spoke about the “different adjustments” he has to make leaving his character behind. The process involves emotionality and challenges of change, which can be an extremely intense experience for a young actor. The show has allowed him to grow not only as an actor but also as a person. Now that he’s nearing the end of this journey, he not only gets a chance to cherish his memories as Dustin but also prepares to face new challenges.

If you were to ask me that last year, I probably would’ve been like, “No, let’s do it. Let’s get to it.” I’ve always been anxious to do it and I love to do it, so any delay in the process is certainly frustrating. But now that we are getting towards the end of our filming process for the fifth season, yeah, I’m asking for a Time-Turner. It’s been a pretty jarring thing to realize how quickly it all flew by. I remember so many things from that first season so vividly, as if it was yesterday. We were so young, and it was such a weird, wild experience that it kind of blended together.

So it’s not that I remember the process of filming season one incredibly sharply, but there are a few distinct things that feel like they just happened. And at this point, I’ve almost been doing Stranger Things longer than I haven’t. It’s taken about a decade of my life, and it’s the most formative decade of my life. So I’ll always be really grateful, and coming to terms with letting that go is increasingly difficult, for sure, in a work sense and in a life sense. You can always expect that next season, work-wise and emotionally. So it’s going to be a different adjustment and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

For Stranger Things fans, Matarazzo’s assurance that Season 5 will be the “biggest, darkest, scariest” takes expectations to new heights. The Duffer Brothers have already mesmerized their audience with brilliant storylines and emotional depth. However, Season 4 also saw some negativity from critics, with the lengthy episodes being considered a major issue. If the Duffers succeed in keeping the story short and effective this time in Season 5, it will not only reflect their creativity but also ensure fan satisfaction.

Moreover, the one-year production schedule shared by Matarazzo shows that the Duffer Brothers have prioritized the quality of the final season. It is not easy to include all the characters in a detailed and rich story, and with this new schedule, it can be expected that they will be able to give a proper farewell to each character. This season, which is being made with more thoughtfulness and planning than ever before, will provide fans with a complete and satisfying experience.

However, the problem of long episodes will need to be dealt with. If the Duffer Brothers fail to recover the momentum of last season, Season 5 may be disappointing for some viewers. At the same time, audience expectations are high, and if Season 5 truly delivers on its promises, it will not only be a great finale to the series but could also turn it into a timeless classic. Viewers have been waiting for this final chapter, and their expectations are more than just scary stories—they’re looking for a deep, emotional finale.

Stranger Things Season 5: Anticipating the Ultimate Horror Experience

Netflix

Matarazzo’s recent update creates new excitement about Stranger Things Season 5, especially when he says that this will be the scariest season of the show yet. In the first season, the Duffer Brothers created a great balance of light thrills and scenes, but this balance got a bit disturbed in the later seasons. Season 4, however, brought back horror, especially with the terror of Vecna, which pulled the audience back into that scary world again. Matarazzo’s assurance makes it clear that the Duffer Brothers intend to revive the old tone this time.

Season 5, which will conclude this beloved series, also has high expectations from the audience. It will be disappointing if the Duffer Brothers present this final season as just another episode. With the return of Vecna, it is clear that there will be even more tension and drama in the story. Characters like Eleven, Nancy, Steve and Robin will face a big threat, which will force them to face their fears. If the level of brutality shown in Season 4 is increased, it can be a satisfying experience for the audience.

Matarazzo’s comments also indicate that the level of killings in Season 5 will be even more horrifying. If the Duffer Brothers can develop the horror elements of their story properly, it will give a great ending to the show. The audience wants an experience that is not only thrilling but also provides emotional depth. Thus, Matarazzo’s assurance further increases the expectations about Season 5, and the audience is eagerly waiting for it.
