King Charles Cancer LONDON — Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer during a recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.

While the statement did not specify the type of cancer, it confirmed that the 75-year-old monarch had commenced treatments as of Monday. Although doctors have advised him to postpone public-facing duties, King Charles will continue to manage state affairs and paperwork.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” the statement noted.

Messages of support have poured in from across the United Kingdom and its allies, with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressing his well wishes on Twitter. “The whole country will be wishing him well,” Sunak tweeted.

Even President Biden expressed concern during a press briefing, saying, “I’m concerned about him.”

The news comes as a significant blow to the United Kingdom, occurring less than a year and a half into King Charles III’s reign, following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The public will closely monitor updates on the king’s health as he undergoes treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
