Honda’s midsize SUV, the Honda Passport, has been enjoying a remarkable sales performance recently. The TrailSport trim in particular is driving this success. Last month, the TrailSport version accounted for a whopping 76 percent of Honda Passport sales.
This comes as the Honda Passport set a record in May, up 74 percent year-over-year. Some are even wondering why Honda executives didn’t introduce this “rough-looking” trim sooner.

The TrailSport trim’s individual sales figures are impressive. In May, 5,480 Honda Passports were sold, 4,165 of which were TrailSport models. That’s more than the entire Passport lineup sold in May last year, at 3,150 units.
Compared to its competitors, the TrailSport trim alone outsold one of its main competitors, the Mazda CX-70, by nearly four times. Honda has not previously released separate sales figures for the TrailSport trim, but it is likely that it was already a significant sales force before the second-generation Passport was released.

The success of the TrailSport trim explains why Honda has been more aggressive with this trim than before. Honda has made four of the seven trims available for the 2026 Passport a top-spec TrailSport model. Honda wouldn’t have done that if there wasn’t demand, which suggests there already is.
In addition, thanks to the popularity of the TrailSport, Honda’s best-selling model, the CR-V, will be getting a TrailSport model for the first time. The 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport will be available only as a hybrid model and will be built at Honda’s plant in Greensburg, Indiana.
