The animated comedy franchise, Despicable Me, is set to return with its fourth installment, and this time, Steve Carell’s lovable character Gru faces a new nemesis and a family shake-up. Illumination and Universal Pictures recently unveiled the trailer for Despicable Me 4, introducing new characters played by comedy heavyweights Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara.
The storyline revolves around Gru and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) as they welcome a new addition to the family, Gru Jr. The twist comes when Gru Jr. expresses a distinct dislike for his father, setting the stage for familial humour. However, the tranquillity is disrupted when Silas Ramsbottom (Steve Coogan) warns of the escape of a notorious supervillain, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell), who poses a threat to Gru and his loved ones.
To add to the chaos, Maxime Le Mal’s femme fatale girlfriend, Valentina, is voiced by the talented Sofia Vergara. The family is forced to go on the run to evade the impending danger, leading to a thrilling adventure involving a major heist.
The official synopsis teases, “Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run.”
Apart from Ferrell and Vergara, the voice cast includes Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman from Saturday Night Live. Mike White, known for creating The White Lotus, collaborated with Ken Daurio in writing the screenplay for Despicable Me 4.
