Accuracy of LAX in New Orleans
In a recent conversation with Tudum, Jaume Collet-Serra revealed that his film is set in Los Angeles, but in reality it was produced in the old terminal of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in New Orleans. This terminal was designed and decorated as LAX, giving the film crew a chance to access parts of the massive airport that normal travelers never get to see.
Collet-Serra said of the process, “We took over the old MSY [Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport] in New Orleans and redesigned/decorated it to look like LAX. It was very exciting for us to have the whole place to ourselves and explore all the areas of the airport that we don’t normally see as travelers.”
Finding the action in an aviation setting
A busy and complex location like LAX may be the perfect setup for an action film, but it also has a great deal of parts that are often hidden in real life. The unseen areas of the airport, such as back-end security areas, airline gates, and customs, contributed significantly to the film’s unique setting. These areas were specifically designed and shot to add to the film’s intensity and realism.
The action scenes also have a wonderful freshness and pace, and Collet-Serra’s directing style turned the entire film into a surreal and exhilarating experience. The tense events unfolding inside the airport are portrayed brilliantly in the film, and it connects the audience to experiences that are normally out of their reach.
