- 20th Century Studios Reveals ‘Alien: Romulus’ Trailer: A Blood-Drenched Return to the Franchise!
The excitement reaches its peak when the trailer for “Alien: Romulus” is released, sparking the character-driven Alien universe. Directed by director Fede Alvarez, known for his work on “Don’t Breathe”, the upcoming film marks the fulfillment of a long wait for fans after 2017’s “Alien: Covenant”. Ridley Scott, franchise creator, serves as executive producer, taking the excitement to the sky.
Set between the first two films, “Alien: Romulus” promises an interesting narrative, with a new Ripley-like character portrayed by Cailee Spaeny as well as Isabella Merced. The story unfolds as young travelers from a distant planet fall prey to an insensitive xenomorph, causing outcry and fear.
The trailer offers a glimpse of pulse-pounding action, complete with gore and an army of facelifters. Spaeny’s character using the pulse rifle reminds Verity, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic Ripley, which further adds to the nostalgia and excitement among fans.
Approaching the August release date, director Alvarez amps up the excitement by unveiling the official poster on social media, which briefly counts down to the intergalactic clash.

Alien: Romulus” Teaser Signals a Bold Return to Franchise Roots
The Alien franchise has long received praise for its first two films, with Ridley Scott’s original film providing a scary space horror experience, while James Cameron’s iteration amped up the action. However, the quality of subsequent entries in the series has varied. With Scott at the helm, the franchise was taken in bold new directions with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, though the final film received mixed reviews.
Despite planning a scheduled sequel to Alien: Covenant, Scott changed the dynamics due to its receiving reviews. The teaser for Alien: Romulus hints at the return of a new location, which adopts the claustrophobic horror motifs of the original film, with most of the action set aboard a spaceship. The move suggests a departure from the elaborate settings of recent films.
Director Alvarez’s previous work on the 2013 remake of Evil Dead, hinted at a more bloody perspective on the Alien universe. Actress Merced teased a particularly gruesome scene, hinting at a return to the more intense and terrifying elements of the franchise.
Alien: Romulus could be a watershed moment for the franchise, offering a fresh approach to its roots. How effective this approach will be with audiences and critics remains to be seen, but it may provide an opportunity to reintroduce the series to a new generation.
