Hill’s claim is based on two main points:

Reclaiming Copyright: In 2021, Hill filed to reclaim the copyright of his 1986 script, which was set to expire in November 2023 with United Arts. Despite their efforts, Amazon proceeded to produce the remake as usual, without their permission.

AI Voice Imitation: Hill further claims that Amazon used artificial intelligence (AI) to imitate actors’ voices during the film’s production. Specifically, the studio used EAI-driven automated dialogue to mimic the voices of the original cast. Hill claims that this practice violates his rights, and also affects the originality of the film.

An Amazon representative said the lawsuit was “totally baseless” and acknowledged that EAI was not used to replace the actors’ voices. In addition, Amazon declares that Hill’s copyright termination is not legally effective and has a full defense against his claim.
