Polestar 4: In a groundbreaking move, Swedish car manufacturer Polestar, a subsidiary of Volvo, is set to introduce the Polestar 4 with a revolutionary design feature—a high-definition screen replacing the traditional rear-view mirror.

This cutting-edge innovation aims to provide drivers with an improved view of the road behind them, especially in challenging conditions such as driving at night.

Jonathan Goodman, the head of Polestar in the UK, highlighted the limitations of conventional rear-view mirrors, stating, ‘The visibility out the back of many cars is pretty constrained – the second you have a large passenger in the back or any luggage, you can’t see anything out of it at all. If you place a camera there, you have a far better field of vision than the driver.

Positioned in the familiar location above the dashboard, the high-definition screen can be switched off, reverting to a standard mirror when needed. This dual-functionality not only enhances visibility but also provides flexibility to drivers. Furthermore, the removal of the traditional rear window allows for a re-engineered interior, offering more head and legroom.

While some other vehicles, such as certain electric BMW models, have integrated cameras linked to the rear-view mirror, the Polestar 4 is set to be the first to eliminate the glass rear window. Priced at £59,990, this innovative vehicle will hit the roads in August, marking a significant step forward in automotive design and functionality.
